By accessing or using the website located at sentinel.yuvoice.org (the “Site”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Site. These Terms apply to all visitors, newsletter subscribers, article contributors, commenters, and anyone else who accesses the Site.
The Sentinel by Yuvoice (“The Sentinel,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a nonpartisan, apolitical global nonprofit citizen journalism publication. We publish personal stories, journalism, fiction, poetry, and other content from contributors around the world. The views expressed in published articles, including in The Superhero Brief newsletter, are those of the individual authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Sentinel by Yuvoice as an organization.
You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You may not:
All content published on the Site, including text, graphics, logos, images, audio, video, and the overall design and layout of the Site (collectively, “Site Content”), is owned by or licensed to The Sentinel by Yuvoice and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. “The Sentinel by Yuvoice,” the Sentinel logo, and related marks are trademarks of The Sentinel by Yuvoice or its parent organization.
You may read, share, and link to Site Content for personal, non-commercial purposes, provided you attribute the content to The Sentinel by Yuvoice and the credited author. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, or commercially exploit any Site Content without our prior written permission.
Articles, stories, poetry, fiction, and other works submitted by contributors and published on the Site are subject to the Contributor Agreement described in Section 5. Contributors retain ownership of their works, subject to the license rights granted under that agreement.
If you submit an article, story, poem, or other work for editorial consideration, you must comply with the applicable Editorial Submission Guidelines published on the Site. All submissions must be your own original work, written in English, and must not have been previously published in any commercial medium (print, digital, or audio), except on a private blog you own.
By submitting a work through the Site’s article submission form, you agree to the Contributor Agreement presented at the time of submission. The key terms of the Contributor Agreement are:

Contributors may elect to publish anonymously (credited as “Global Citizen”), under a first name only, or under a pen name. Even anonymous contributors must share their real name privately with our editorial team.
The Site may allow you to post comments on published articles. By posting a comment, you grant The Sentinel by Yuvoice a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide license to display, reproduce, and distribute your comment on the Site and in connection with the promotion of the Site.
You are responsible for the content of your comments. Comments must not:
We reserve the right, but are not obligated, to monitor, edit, or remove any comment that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these Terms or is otherwise objectionable. We are not responsible for comments posted by users and do not endorse any user comment.
By subscribing to The Superhero Brief, you consent to receive periodic email communications from us. You may unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email. The views expressed in the newsletter are those of the CEO and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Sentinel by Yuvoice as an organization.
The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including links provided by contributors. These links are provided for convenience and informational purposes only. We do not control, endorse, or assume responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party website. Accessing third-party websites is at your own risk.
The Sentinel by Yuvoice publishes personal stories, opinions, and creative works from contributors around the world. Published content reflects the views and experiences of the individual authors, not of The Sentinel by Yuvoice. We do not endorse or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any user-submitted content.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising out of or related to the Site or these Terms shall not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100).
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Sentinel by Yuvoice, its parent organizations, officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Site; (b) any content you submit, post, or transmit through the Site; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any rights of another person or entity.
Before initiating any formal proceeding, you agree to contact us first and attempt to resolve any dispute informally. Please send a written description of your concern to the contact information in Section 15 below. We will attempt to resolve the matter within thirty (30) days.
If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, you and The Sentinel by Yuvoice agree to resolve the dispute through binding arbitration administered by American Arbitration Association under its then-current rules. The arbitration shall be conducted in California. The arbitrator’s decision shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
You agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not as part of any class, consolidated, or representative action.
Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent the actual or threatened infringement or misappropriation of intellectual property rights.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [Insert state/jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
We may revise these Terms at any time by posting an updated version on the Site with a new Effective Date. Changes take effect upon posting. Your continued use of the Site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Contributor Agreement (for contributors), constitute the entire agreement between you and The Sentinel by Yuvoice regarding your use of the Site.
